International Falls Police report a safe ending to a brief standoff involving a city man.
It occurred after police were called about a disturbance at a home on 13th Street West.
Police say the man, who alleged he was shot at, first became aggressive toward officers.
After escorting a woman outside, officers say they heard what were thought to be gunshots from inside the home.
Nearby residents were evacuated as members of the Falls Police Emergency Response Team and Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office were called in to assist.
After three hours, the man surrendered to police without incident and was placed in custody.
A handgun was later found in the home.
The 49-year-old remains in custody on several charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon, threats of violence and domestic assault.
